Right, I’m 26% of the way through The Pact by Jodi Picoult and I am so bored that I just want to give up! I do not give up on books….
I’m currently in a FB discussion with Sarah over at Bytheletterbookreviews about this book and whether or not to give up on it! Come say hello! 🙂
I find it hard to admit defeat when it comes to a book I don’t like, there aren’t many I’ve given up on. Off the top of my head, I can only remember three that I couldn’t finish in recent times. One of these is a book that people RAVE about!!!
Room by Emma Donoghue
Dave Grohl’s autobiography
Ha’penny Chance (I’m so terrible I can’t even remember the author, sorry!!!)
Which leads me to my question, do you or have you ever given up on a book? If so, what was/were they?!
I very rarely give up on books at all. This year I have only given up on one that was a review book for NetGalley ~ The Sins of Their Preachers by Peggy Savage Baumgardner.
I try to persevere with books but this one is just making me question my logic! If it’s not good is it better just to walk away! I’ve already reached my Goodreads challenge target so now I’m just trying to clear the backlog of old books on my kindle! Don’t even get me started on how behind i am on Netgalley! 🙂
I always used to struggle to the end of a book no matter what, but then I started reading ‘on beauty ‘ by zadie smith and could not hack reading on. So I gave up and I read something else instead which turned out to be brilliant. Lesson learned, I now give up if something isn’t working for me (albeit it’s still a rarity). Too many good books, too little time, and reading is supposed to be a pleasure…
Very true! I ended up reading some more of the book last night and it’s still not great but I may just keep going at this stage!
Not since” Lord of the rings”, aged 12; will persevere to the bitter end, “women who run with wolves” by Clarissa Pinkola Estefez…(or similar), took 15 months. Never have 2 on the go at once though. I find I speed up at the end, often takes till mid way before I’m gripped. Currently reading: “possession”,by A.S.Byatt, hard going so far, but fellow readers recommend. Have recently read: “gone girl”;”the girl on the train”+”the sunrise”-Victoria Hislop’s latest, and recommend them all.
I hated Gone Girl and The Girl On The Train! They were two books that I just didn’t get the hype! I’ve kept on reading even though I’m not the biggest fan of the book!
