My thanks to Corvus and Sanjida Kay for my arc of Bone By Bone.
About the book (via Goodreads):
How far would you go to protect your child? When her daughter is bullied, Laura makes a terrible mistake…
Laura loves her daughter more than anything in the world.
But nine-year-old daughter Autumn is being bullied. Laura feels helpless.
When Autumn fails to return home from school one day, Laura goes looking for her. She finds a crowd of older children taunting her little girl.
In the heat of the moment, Laura makes a terrible choice. A choice that will have devastating consequences for her and her daughter…
I’d had Bone By Bone on my TBR for a couple of weeks and I really wanted to read a real book, having been reading on Kindle for a while so I picked this book up…..
And I couldn’t put it down!!!
Bone By Bone is a stunning book. It is so tense and it just hooks you completely from the first page.
I hate giving away anything about books and their plots so as usual, no spoilers here!
The story is told in chapters voiced both by Laura and Autumn, so the reader gets insights into the the harried mother and increasingly fearful little girl.
Kay has done a superb job with this book. It is frightening in its realness, in that it is easily a situation that you could find yourself or your child in. Bullying is such a horrendous act, and the author has effortlessly captured the feelings of those involved.
I’m not going to lie, this book was a tense read. I could actually feel the tension in my shoulders when I was reading it. I couldn’t relax reading it if that makes sense.
I knew that the events of the book would culminate in something, so as I was reading I was becoming increasingly apprehensive to continue to the end as I was fearful of what I might read in the final chapters.
I love that about books like this!
Sanjida Kay has written a brilliant book. Wrought with tension from the beginning, the reader is pulled in from the first chapter and they are not let go until the very last page!
I gave Bone By Bone 4⭐️ on Goodreads, and I’d highly recommend it!
